These word cards cover everything from A to Z, 0 to 20, and all the colours of the rainbow. Plus, they've even thrown in the days of the week (Te reo Māori translation is based on the Gregorian calendar), because who doesn't love a good calendar reminder? A total of 65 cards + 1 note card. There are also some animals, food and objects on the alphabet and colour cards to help tamariki associate the colour or letter with something.

On one side, there's a NZSL illustration for the english word, letter and number. On the other side is the translation in te reo māori. For instance, the number 1 card shows the NZSL sign for one, the numeral 1 and "one" in English, and the opposite side has "tahi" in te reo māori plus a phonetic to break down the pronunciation.

The intention behind creating the starter pack was to provide only the fundamental basic components of language learning for tamariki.
